ARTIST CHIT CHAT with Elizabeth of Love From Lilibet
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who is the lady behind Love from Lilibet?
My real name is Elizabeth. Lilibet was a name given to me as a child by a neighbour and I’ve always loved it. Originally from the UK, I now live in Sydney with my husband and daughter. During the day I have a corporate job and so I spend as much spare time as I can developing my design practice. I’m a chocoholic, French Earl Grey tea drinker, and an occasional roller skater. I have an eclectic fashion sense with a passion for pattern, colour and sequins and am at my happiest surrounded by all things bright and sparkly.
2. How long ago did you start Love from Lilibet?
I’d always had a dream to create an illustration and textiles brand. I’ve been creative and artistic all of my life, attending art college and studying fashion at university. LFL was born early 2017 when I took a surface pattern design course and I’ve been obsessed ever since. There’s not a day goes by where I don’t sit with my iPad and Apple Pencil and draw or doodle something.
3. What/Who/Where do you draw inspiration for your art from?
I get my inspiration from anywhere and everywhere. Sometimes I might research style trends and colour palettes but mainly I like to just draw whatever comes to me. I often have many ideas and projects on the go at the same time that I like to dip in and out of.
4. What was your initial reaction when we reached out to you regarding a fashion collaboration? Have you ever seen your prints on clothing before?
I had been a JRC admirer for a while and even dreamt of how wonderful it would be to collaborate one day, so I was over the moon and couldn’t believe my eyes when I received the DM from JRC. My heart literally jumped out of my chest and I am pretty sure I let out a squeal of delight.
This is my first fashion collaboration however I have seen my designs on clothing before. In previous years I used to hand paint original designs onto clothing and Doc Martin boots. More recently my prints have been purchased on clothing and other products via my print on demand shop.
5. What is your favourite piece from the new 'Crazy Cactus' collection?
I can’t chose a favourite piece from the new collection.. they are all such unique pieces. I think each piece has been designed so well to compliment the print. I see myself wearing each and every piece on high rotation.
