ARTIST CHIT CHAT with Tamara of September Creative
What inspired the Lovestruck print?
A colour palette! I was working as the head of creative at my day job at the time, and creating new illustrated design concepts for a Valentine's Day campaign. Frustrated that the marketing team wanted to go in the same old direction as every other year, I gave myself a 5 minute design break! It's a little something I gave myself at day jobs where I stop what I'm doing, create anything I want to with zero restrictions but I only have 5 minutes to do so, then I actually have to my job haha. Using the colour palette I created for the Valentine's Day campaign, I illustrated a cute heart pattern, some matches and then decided to combine the two. This was the beginning of Lovestruck!
How did the collaboration with Jericho Road Clothing come about?
I posted the pattern on my personal instagram feed, the JRC girls saw it and approached me about another collaboration using the design - and of course I said YES! A thousand times yes!
What does a regular day in the life of September Creative look like?
As I own a few different businesses, my days can vary quite a lot! But a pretty average day can look like this - I snooze my alarm a few times because I've stayed up too late watching horror movies to review on my podcast Bitch Run, go for a quick walk to get a chai latte, check emails, get some admin work done and start the creative work late in the morning. My creative brain is just a lot more active later in the day! This work can vary from creating mood boards for a new branding project, researching for a brand strategy project, designing stationery or new products for September Creative and The Plant Market, content creation, looking for treasures for Forage & Co and designing marketing campaigns and materials for my amazing clients.
What is your favourite piece from the collection?
Oooooh that's a tough one! My favourite piece of clothing has to be the cord pinafore and my favourite accessory ishands feet down, the socks!
If a recipe says one garlic clove, how many do you put in?
The entire bulb.
